Muscles that span two joints are most prone to cramping. Cramps can involve part or all of a muscle, or several muscles in a group. Muscle disorders can cause weakness, pain or even paralysis. Muscles are are classified both functionally as either voluntary or involuntary and structurally as either striated or smooth. From this, there emerges three types of muscles: smooth involuntary (smooth ) muscle, striated voluntary (skeletal ) muscle and striated involuntary (cardiac ) muscle.
Muscle tissue accounts for most of an individual's mass and daily energy consumption. Fuel economy is very important, not only for minimising food requirements, but also for reducing unwanted heat production.
